MONDAY | The drive from Cathedral Grove to Tofino was longer than we anticipated but the scenery was spectacular. The road was winded down around the snow-capped mountains and was laced in lush overgrown greenery. It was hard to believe this was the main thorough fair in and out of Tofino. At times, the drive was painfully slow due to RVs and overly cautious drivers ahead of us but eventually we arrived in Ucluelet for lunch. Before heading off for food we made a detour via Ucluelet lighthouse, where Ash had the privilege of taking photos for a group of bikers that rocked up. Lunch was then enjoyed under the blaring sun on the outdoor patio at the Blue Room. We then appreciated a exasperating wait of about 30 minutes to get our server to bring our cheque to us so we could pay and be on our way to Tofino. A last minute accommodation swap saw us trade in a room at the local Inn for a small flat just off Main Street that overlooked Deadmans Inslet. Complete with a kitchen and a bed each we were stoked to call this home for the next couple of nights. Our porch overlooked the water and so the remainder of the afternoon was spent enjoying the views and reading. For dinner we decided to stroll into town rather than make use of the kitchen. We jokingly followed a older lady in front of us who weaved through the streets on a clear mission. She lead us to Wolf in the Fog, but the menu looked limited and the place looked packed with tourists. So instead we made a call to hit up Kuma for some Japanese tapas, which turned out to be a wise decision because the food was outstanding. By the time our meal had wrapped and I'd enjoyed an ice cream scoop from Sugar Shack the sun was just beginning to descend, so we made a b-line for home to enjoy the remainder of twilight and the sunset from the comfort of our porch. TUESDAY | After a glorious sleep in, we awoke to a heavy onset of food and rain today, that the forecast assured us wouldn't ease. Not letting it rain on our parade the first stop for the day was brunch at Rhino Coffee house where I enjoyed my first ever longer Fog (Earl Grey latte with a dash of Vanilla) and a Maple Bacon donuts. Beyond satisfied with the meal we then spent the remainder of the morning checking out the local shops and stocking up on unique bits and pieces for ourselves. The rain ensured that by the time we bundled into the car and headed off to Tofino Brewery we were soaked but it also meant that upon arrival we had the place pretty much to ourselves. On the way in as I stopped to take a picture of the Brewery Ash thought it would be hilarious to push her foot into the back of my knee, causing my leg to buckle. My instinct reaction as I came unbalanced was to swing around a punch her, which happened to miss her arm and land directly into her boob. Post the Titty Punch incident of May, 2017 we seated ourselves at the bar and kicked things off with a flight. Their offering was phenomenal and their branding so on point. I wanted to buy a growler and one of each of the beers but getting it back to Oz would just be a no go, so instead we just enjoyed the offering whilst we were there. We got a little caught up chatting to the bar tenders and sipping on the stellar beer that before knew it, it was early afternoon and we hadn't had lunch so we took the bar tenders recommendation and headed off down the road to the taco truck. The mornings earlier stream of rain had ceased and the weather gods cast us a reprieve whilst we ordered and ate our Tacofino tacos outside. However the rain was replaced with a bitter wind that whipped through the parking lot continuously. The meal was great but what wasn't cool was being sent on a wild goose chase to locate the bathroom. In my hour of need the store owners decided to play a cruel joke that involved them giving me the wrong directions to bathroom, bouncing me from store to store rather than just pointing me on the path to the toilet. Finally ready to burst I got real short with one of the counter girls who took pity on me and finally pointed me in the correct direction. The only way to overcome this pain was to enjoy a afternoon scoop of salted caramel ice-cream from Chocolate Tofino. We arrived back home and had an hour or so of downtime before braving the intense winds as we headed to the Ice House Oyster Bar that sat on the jetty directly outside of our house. Once again we chose to sit at the bar where we kicked off the night with a round of cocktails. Each time we finished our delicious drinks the bar tenders were on hand to create a new concoction for us to adore. Intermittently throughout this routine we enjoyed platters (plural) of oysters and a calamari dish. Even as the day turned to night we stayed on our stools, happily enjoying the company of the bar staff and the lessons we were learning from the shucker. The drinks continued to flow even when the kitchen closed for the night and the staff began to tuck into their after shift meal. Sensing that the night was winding down quickly we requested the bill and were hit with the shock of just how much we had indulged. Multiple hundreds we handed over in payment and we made the short walk home & climb into bed in a trance of bill shock. WEDNESDAY | Our heads were a little rusty when we woke on Wednesday, which was only compounded by the after shock of how much cash we'd thrown away the previous evening. We agreed to live with #noregrets and so post showers, packing and checking out we were back in the car headed to Tofitian for a breakfast pastry and English Fog. After brekkie it was a short drive down the Pacific Rim highway to Incinerator Rock beach for some fresh air. Even though the air was chilly and the water was freezing surfers were braving the water and people were enjoying a brisk beach walk. We relished the fresh air and scenic view for over an hour before the chill reached our bones and we high-tailed back into the car for warmth. It was another slow windy trip out of Tofino and back towards the east coast. Once we'd cleared the spiralling road and made it back on the main highway we took the easy (and cheap) option and hit up Macca's for lunch in the car park. Then it was back on the highway to head east and then south towards my name name sake town, Lady Smith.
