WEDNESDAY | Our day was spent driving south, then east then back up north through the Kootenay Rookies. The highway weaved up and over the pristine mountains, all of which were surrounded by lush lakes, rivers and snow capped mountains. Arriving ahead of schedule into Kimberely we decided to cheap out the town before heading up the hill to our snow-village accommodation. What awaited us was a central platzl that was Bavarian themed. The pedestrian-only brick street was lined with restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques all of which exteriors kept with the old-wordily vibe. So we wandered, ducking in and out the shops and we wondered how we had managed to stumble across this odd alternate universe. With snow season wrapped for the Summer our hotel was eerily quiet. We checked in, read the warning about the un-safe to drink water from the taps and after grabbing some bottled water we headed back down the hill to Pedal and Tap for dinner. The place was teeming with locals and it soon became apparent why. Plenty of great local beers on taps and huge delicious servings of food. We ate what we could but the size of the meal was just too hefty for us to deal with. After picking at the food that remained on our plates we finally gave up and checked out, giving our table to the waiting line of locals who were keen to get their fill. Our stomachs bloated we weren't ready to head home yet to we excited the square and strolled around the outer area of the town. When we came across a staircase up into the forest i couldn't help but head on up in an attempt to work off some of the meal we'd just consumed. Huffed and puffed from our mini exercise regime we finally returned to the room and clambered into bed for a movie and an early night. THURSDAY | It took a couple of laps around the outside of the platzl before we finally located the bakery for breakfast. Whilst the offering was alluring there was nothing savoury available so we had to hop next door to the Bean Tree Cafe to get our breakfast fix. Then after another quick lap around the empty square, we were back on the road, headed north for a side excursion to the hot springs on our way to Banff.
