TUESDAY | After a servo stop and driver change we drove up to the border crossing just after midday and were ushered directly into a lane. Greeting us was a very stern Canadian gent who had lots of questions about our intentions, previous visits to the north, our car hire transactions and our general movements over the coming weeks. Satisfied with the facts we fed to him we were shortly back on our way after a quick readjustment on the spedo from miles to kms and the realisation that the sat nav didn't work in Canada. Using only our wits we navigated the mammoth mountains that encompass Oosoyos and shortly after locating the freeway that would take us east to Nelson we pulled over for a picnic lunch next to a lake. Snacking on salsa and bottled runny cheese (it was all Ash's to enjoy) we munched on our chips before we were back on the road. The lack of sat nav made finding our hotel a tad challenging but after a few laps of the town we pulled up the Hume Hotel, ditched the car and checked in for the night. The temptation of live music and old-school library charm of the downstairs restaurant lured us in, making the commit to dinner non-existent. A window seat gave us prime people gazing and what we uncovered over the course of our meal is that Nelson has a hippy-hipster population. Intrigued about where they were all coming and going from after our meal we headed out for a walk. We weren't able to locate the source of their hive but we did stumble across an art instillation outside the local council meeting. With the sun setting we hiked from the water front back up the hill to the Hume Hotel where we settled in to the constant tune of dance music that radiated through our window. WEDNESDAY | Brekkie was a quick meal at the other hotel resturant followed by a walk through town. Not much was open or happening so we headed back out on the road via a pit-stop at the Nelson Bridge, also fondly referred to by the locals as The Big Orange Bridge.
