MONDAY | Our flight to Denver should have had us arriving earlier afternoon however due to plane failure at the Nashville end we found ourselves delayed until mid-afternoon. Once we’d collected our bags we caught the bus out to the car pick up place, paid an additional $1000 in fees and then hit the road. We decided to head the advice of the randoms we meet in the Austin bar and made our first stop the Red Rock Amphitheatre. As I explained to Ash this place had no connection to the chip manufacturer in Australia and was instead a massive outdoor theatre that had been carved into a couple of red stones in the national park. Before hitting up the main attraction we had lunch instead the rock at the restaurant. Then it was outdoors to gawk at the mighty sight that is this venue. Sights absorbed it was onto the RiNo Art District of Denver. It didn’t take long to locate our basement accommodation for the night and within in minutes of arrival we’d dumped our belongings and were out on the freezing streets of Denver exploring. First stop was Stem Cider Brewery. On Monday evenings, they feature a special barrel of Cider so they place was pumping with the Denver Hipsters trialling Rosehip Cider. We could have stayed for a few rounds but the lack of food on offer meant we were back on the street after only one round. Freezing from the artic winds that whipped up Larimer Street we ventured into a popular looking Mexican joint: Los Chingones. Even though there appeared to be people queuing we were ushered to a couple of spare spots at the bar that over looked the kitchen. We ordered up a storm; guac and rattle snake, tacos and brussel sprouts. It was divine. The best Mexican we’d eaten, period. Every mouth full was a pure delight, with the rattle snake a favourite. We rolled ourselves the short distance home, rugged up, blasted the heater and went to bed on the promise that tomorrow there would be snow. TUESDAY | Mother Nature did not disappoint. As I peeked out our basement window on Tuesday morning the ground was covered in fresh white snow and it continued to build as flakes descended from above. We both bounced out of bed and were showered and prepped in record time. It was bliss to walk outside and find yourselves surrounded by snowflakes. Our shoes disappeared beneath us as we tried to wade our way to breakfast. We didn’t care that we slipped and sloped along the path, it was snowing and we were ecstatic. Post breakfast we headed back to the car to remove the snow that had settled on it and then it was time to hit the road to Boulder.
