THURSDAY | We arrived in the jungle a little after 3pm and were greeted by a stunning Mexican man dressed in safari get-up. He showed us around the hotel and informed us we had the entire place to ourselves for the next couple of days. Once we'd sussed out our room we were ushered to the lake side lounge where we were treated to juices. By the lake, we sat drinking our detoxing syrups, listening to the distant drumming taking place at the nearby Mayan pyramid and watching the sun go down.
The freshest dinner we'd eaten yet was served to us outside under the tropical forest stars, next to us our private pool was being was being filled with freshwater from the local Cenote. Post meal I was unable to pass up an opportunity for a swim so I went for a frolic in the freshly poured pool under Ashlea’s watchful supervision. Then to bed we went, melting into our king size bed that was the softest surface either of us had ever laid our heads. FRIDAY | A familiar breakfast of fresh granola and yoghurt was served to us just after the dawn had lit up the lake. We were up with a spring in our step ready to beat the tourists to the Coba Mayan Ruins. The 10-minute walk to the ruins along the lake was warm and by the time we got there the first tourist buses were already arriving. We ducked ahead of the groups, picked up a couple of bicycles and began the 6km ride through the jungle to the ruins. Tucked away in the lush flora the menacing structure stood. We watched as other tourists scrambled to climb up and down. One elderly gent took a tumble at the top and slid down a few rows of stone. It was then we decided we would honour the sanctity of the site and not attempt to climb it. Instead we weaved our way back through the wilderness stopping to take on the other Mayan village ruins along the way. Back at Coqui Coqui we washed away the mornings efforts in the pool and then we lay about waiting to be summoned to the spa. Shortly after midday I was lead away where for the next couple of hours I was scrubbed in coconut, wrapped in gladwrap, allowed to shower before being ushered naked into the private courtyard cenote pool and then finally I was massaged from top to bottom. It was utter bliss. Ash was up next and whilst she was off being pampered I lazed around in the lake side lounge, browsed the perfumery, was brought food & beverages and plotted how I could make this my life every day. Ash returned from the spa mellowed out and we sat blissfully in the lake side lounge listening to the Mayan drumming and watching the day slip away. It was another fresh delicious dinner out under the jungle stars before we headed to our room to pack and spend another night sleeping on the cloud like bed. SATURDAY | Our last morning in Coba was insanely brief. We barely had time to enjoy our breakfast by the lake before our taxi arrived ready to whisk us back to Cancun airport.
